Lady Bird Lake is open for watercraft that will allow you to explore the shoreline. Local rental shops can provide you with everything you want including kayaks, canoes, and stand up paddle boards. Most of these shops are right here on the water so you will find it easy to get on the lake without difficulty. Lady Bird Lake also offer the Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, a 10 mile trails that surrounds the lake. You can rent a bike to enjoy a casual ride or walk the length of the trail in its entirety for a good workout.
Explore the Barton Creek Greenbelt
You will be amazed at just how many different outdoor attractions you can find in the city limits of Austin. Zilker Park hosts several of these attractions including the popular Barton Creek Greenbelt. This is a 12-mile hiking trail found by the creek that is known to be the ideal spot for outdoor workouts. Barton Creek Greenbelt provides incredible views of the city while offering you an outdoor activity to choose from. Many visitors and locals will use the trail for running, biking, and walking especially on a cool spring day. Throughout the trail you will also find spots for rock climbing and bouldering. Barton Creek does allow swimming so whenever you have worked up a sweat you can always jump right into the water. Take the Kids to Pease Park Conservancy
Sometimes the kids just want to run around and have a little fun. They can do that when you make the visit over to Pease Park Conservancy, Austin’s first public park in the city. This is an 84 acre space with green grass, basketball courts, and a two mile trail to walk around. The kids will have an absolute blast at the splash pad that shoots up water for them to jump into. Pease Park also features free fitness events and horticulture classes throughout the year many in the spring season.
Explore Inner Space Cavern
For those looking to find something unique to do during their stay you should venture up North to Georgetown. This community is about 30 miles north of Austin and features Inner Space Cavern, a historic cave just off Interstate 35. This cavern is over 10,000 years old and hosts tours throughout the day. You will be able to walk through the cavern to see historic fossils and geological formations. The temperature in the cave stays cool all year long making it the perfect spring outdoor activity.
Stop by St. Edward’s Park
On the way back to Austin make sure you stop by St. Edward’s Park. This is a park and preserve that is off the beaten path and overlooked by most visitors. You will find the Creek and Hill Trails here at St. Edward’s Park that offer a slight elevation gain but will reward you with waterfall views that are always a treat. Dogs are allowed in certain parts of the preserve but are required to be on a leash. The northern part of St. Edward’s Park resides in the northern part of Austin so a stop is always easy when driving back into town.
