The fall season is always popular for the onset of all harvest-related activities in Austin. If you are looking for pumpkin patches Austin will have you covered. Each year local farms will be hosting their pumpkin patches where you can pick your own. All farms are located just outside of the Austin city limits making them easy to get to. Head over to Marble Falls and stop by Sweet Berry Farm. During the month of September, this farm will be hosting their pumpkin patch where you can pick and choose any gourd you see. Barton Hill Farms located in Bastrop has additional activities such as a giant corn maze and farm animals to feed and pet. It doesn’t feel any more fall-related than when it comes to visiting a pumpkin patch!
Visit the Austin Zoo
Nothing is more exciting for a child than seeing some of their favorite animals up close at a zoo. Luckily Austin has that covered with the Austin Zoo. Spacious habitats and exhibits highlight some of the unique creatures that call this zoo home. During the fall season, the Austin Zoo will be hosting their Boo at the Zoo every Friday and Saturday night for the second half of October. This spooky addition to the zoo brings out a haunted mansion and even a thrilling train ride decorated for Halloween. Additional tickets are needed for this spooky activity at the zoo!
Enjoy Some Craft Beer or Wine
Austin is a craft beer mecca for the state of Texas. When you are in the city you are bound to see one of the many craft breweries as you drive around. Make sure you stop by one of these locales for some handcrafted ales. Austin Beerworks is a local favorite with a giant beer garden to relax in. Zilker Brewing Company and Taproom have an enjoyable space and even better brews. Many of these breweries offer tasty food options too so it is not just the adults having all the fun. Since it is the fall you should also go and enjoy some craft cider too. Austin has plenty of cider shops that offer this sweet and delectable treat. Prepare to see a lot of orange every Sunday as the Longhorns thrive in their hometown of Austin.
Go Hiking
Austin is surrounded by hill country allowing you to find some great hiking trails in the area. Head over to Lady Bird Lake where you can enjoy a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails. If you prefer to hike outside the city the Enchanted Rock State Natural area offers beautiful hikes with views of the granite batholith. Many of the wild refuge and discovery centers outside the city require reservations so make sure to book before you head out.
Go to the Drive-In Theaters
The fall season is the perfect time to enjoy the weather outdoors. Austin has several different drive-in theaters where you can lay out and enjoy a film on the big screen. Local venues in the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In and Doc’s Drive-In Theatre. Each venue offers tasty food and beverages to pair with your outdoor cinema experience.
