Brunch

There are a number of ways mom takes care of us, and a big one of those is cooking. Treat mom to the traditional Mother’s Day brunch while on vacation. Contact one of the many Houston area restaurants to find out if they’ll be serving the traditional meal, and whether reservations are necessary. If you want to make mom a home-cooked meal instead, there are a number of grocery stores near your rental where you can stock up on supplies.

Spa Day

A day at the spa is a great way to relax completely and pamper mom on a Mother’s Day trip to Houston. The city hosts a number of spas and salons offering a myriad of services. Go home relaxed, rejuvenated, and refreshed! Choose from services like manicures, pedicures, body wraps or scrubs, a variety of massages, and more. Select spas even have salons where mom can get a new haircut, or have her makeup professionally done – including a lesson to keep up the routine once she gets home.

Shopping

You and mom may pick up some fun souvenirs during your Houston activities, but there are plenty of opportunities for shopping. There are a number of malls, including The Galleria, Memorial City, and Willowbrook Mall. Visit the River Oaks District for upscale shopping at high-end stores.

For a shopping experience mom won’t forget, head underground! The Houston tunnel system was originally built in the 1930s as a link between two prominent movie theaters, today it’s a seven-mile system spanning 95 city blocks! Rather than the simple shortcut of the days of old, it’s now a popular destination for shopping, dining, activities, and more.

Space Center Houston

Everyone is fascinated by space. Look up into the night sky and all the stars. Light from those stars in the sky may represent galaxies we can only dream of reaching one day. The center features an array of permanent and rotating exhibits, including interactive exhibits.

Discover over 400 space artifacts, exhibits, experiences, theaters, and more that depict our country’s journey to the stars. The center also boasts the world’s largest collection of moon rocks and lunar samples available for public view, so make sure you see them before you leave.

Choose a tour that hits locations like Minute Maid Park, Toyota Center, Market Square, Buffalo Bayou, and others. Tours with various companies last anywhere from two hours to a whole day.

Children’s Museum Houston

Schedule some activities the kids will love, too. The museum is 90,000 square feet packed with kid-friendly museum fun. Children up to age two can enjoy the “Tot*Spot” full of age-appropriate fun. Older children can visit the EcoStation and learn about Texas native plants, solar power, woodlands, and more.

They’ll learn about water, matter, chemistry, physics, and other fascinating topics. Have them burn off energy in PowerPlay, a fun exhibit that puts the body to the test while exploring health, nutrition, and exercise. Head to the Maker Annex to make something truly creative or mellow out for a bit in the branch of the Houston Public Library located inside the museum.

Trampoline Parks

Bounce around and burn off some energy. There are a number of indoor trampoline parks in the Houston area that welcome kids with boundless energy and their parents to bounce around. Book time and sign waivers online. Enjoy activities like trampolines, basketball courts, dodge ball, tumbling lanes, “Ninja Warrior” style obstacle courses, and more. Most offer a separate toddler and young child area where young children can play safely away from older children and adults.

Houston Zoo

The zoo is an activity the whole family will love, and plays host to African painted dogs, American alligators, bald eagles, black bear, cougars, Chilean flamingos, monkeys, lions, giraffes, and more. Wander through exhibits like bird habitats, African forest, Galapagos Islands, or take a break and let the kids burn off some energy at the Explore the Wild! Nature Play Area.
