ABC Kite Fest

If you happen to visit Austin just before Easter Weekend you can find yourself in town around the time of the ABC Kite Fest. This unique event will take place on April 1st at Zilker Park for a memorable time for all ages. ABC Kite Fest is an all-ages event that has been a family tradition for years. You will find all-day-long activities during this event such as a kite flying contest and Mossfest, a unique children’s music concert. Thousands of Austinites will be at Zilker Park for this free event where you can make a kite and gaze at it flying in the sky. Local sponsors allow this community event to continue year to year. Easter Egg Hunts

It will not be a typical Easter holiday without a thrilling egg hunt for you and your family to participate in. Luckily, Austin has quite a few different Easter egg hunts that occur throughout the holiday. Many of the Easter egg hunts occur at local churches in the area. These churches have included Bethany Lutheran, First United Methodist Church Austin, and Riverbend Church. Other organizations that also host Easter egg hunts in the city have included Oak Hill Fire Department and Huston Tillotson Community Center. Each of these egg hunts occurs the Saturday or Sunday of Easter Weekend so you can find an egg hunt that works out for your schedule. Expect these free events to be welcoming and offer your children an exciting way to spend their holiday together. Perhaps the biggest and most exciting Easter egg hunt that happens each year is the one held at the Austin Zoo. Nothing is more exciting than hunting for Easter egg eggs as your family searches around the Austin Zoo with exciting animal exhibits nearby. This event will take place on Saturday April 8th with check-in at 8:30 AM. This Easter egg hunt requires registration beforehand to participate in the fun. All you need to do is to bring your Easter basket so your children can find all the eggs they can muster. There is a Little Hunters area that is designed for children ages 3 and younger. Easter Brunch

Another great way to enjoy your Easter weekend is by finding an Easter brunch nearby. We admit this is an activity the adults will look forward to the most as Easter brunches around Austin serve up tasty food and delicious drinks. For those looking for a more luxurious meal look no further than Goodall’s. This fine dining establishment has a prix fixe meal for Easter brunch that often includes salmon, steak, deviled eggs, and so much more. Don’t forget the desserts too such as lemon bars and more. Jeffrey’s is another fine dining establishment in Clarksville that features seafood towers and lamb porchetta. For a more family-friendly meal, check out Fareground, which comes with a variety of food vendors and more. Fusebox Festival

For those sticking around Austin for a few days after Easter, they can check out the Fusebox Festival, a hybrid arts festival that combines theatre, film, dance, music, and visual arts for a unique experience. Hundreds of artists from all over the world will descend upon Austin for this five-day event. Each performance is an intimate affair at local theatres or clubs. Large-scale projects will also be on hand in local parks and warehouses. Many of the artists who participate in the Fusebox Festival are Grammy Award winners. Once of the biggest events to take place in Austin year after year is South by Southwest, or SXSW as it is more commonly referred to. SXSW is one of the biggest festivals in the world and offers more than just music. This giant event is a combination of music, film, and technology innovation.

This year SXSW will take place March 10th through the 19th for 10 full days of incredible activities. This year’s lineup includes the always popular music festival portion along with the film and TV festival. The music festival brings in world class acts for a variety of performances with many taking place at the various live music venues in the city. The film and TV festival brings in A-list stars to Austin to promote upcoming movies and TV shows. You may even be able to catch a special screening with the stars in it too! SXSW also includes a comedy festival featuring some of the biggest stand-up comedy acts along with several keynote speakers. Head around Downtown Austin to find exhibitions set up with state-of-the-art technology. SXSW is a unique festival in that you can purchase a festival pass that is perfect for you. This year’s ABC Kite Fest will take place on April 1st from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Zilker Park.

Austin Urban Cultural Fest

If SXSW is too big of an event for you and you are looking for R&B and hip hop music, look no further than the Austin Urban Cultural Fest. This popular event will be taking place at Auditorium Shores at Lady Bird Lake where 15,000 music lovers will hit the scene. This is the only Austin event to focus exclusively on R&B, hip hop, and neo-soul for an event like no other. Additional activities at the event also include a live showcase with other cultural makers such as award-winning chefs, dancers, and content creators. The Austin Urban Cultural Fest will take place this year on April 1st.

Fusebox Festival

Austin is not just a champion for live music but also all of the arts. The Fusebox Festival is an incredible event that combines all live art into a single festival. The Fusebox Festival combines music with live theater, dance, literature, culinary arts, film, and much more. International artists from all over the world will descend onto Austin to showcase their incredible discipline with live performances and workshops. The event takes place over various different venues from all across the city. This year’s Fusebox Festival will take place April 12th through April 16th.

MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix

It is time to rev up your engine for this year’s MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix. This is the premier motorcycle racing for the world at Austin’s event is the only North American stop for the year. Come see professional motorcycle racers hit the track and unbelievable speeds. This year’s MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix will take place at Circuit of the Americas from April 14th through April 16th.

And this year is special because they have opened the highly-acclaimed British artist Bruce Munro’s The Field of Light display which debuted on September 9th of 2022! The Field of Light illuminates 16 acres with 28,000 solar-powered, fiber-optic light pods. This display is meant to showcase the intersection of art, nature, and technology. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is open every day from 9 AM to 5 PM but the Field of Light display will be illuminated every day from 5 PM to 11 PM. So clear your evening for a night of music and lights.

Fall Pecan Street Festival

You probably would not have guessed that one of the largest and longest-running street festivals is right here in Austin and is named after one of our favorite nuts. That is where the Fall Pecan Street Festival comes in every September for a variety of arts and crafts, local vendors, and much more. The Pecan Street Festival technically takes place twice a year, on the first Saturday and Sunday of May and also on the last Saturday and Sunday in September. The Fall Festival is just around the corner with all of its exciting activities. Visitors will be able to explore all of the handcrafted creations that come from various mediums such as wood, metal, glass, leather, and stone. While you are browsing around you can enjoy all of the local Austin musical acts with some renowned veterans across three stages. The Pecan Street Festival takes place along Sixth Street in Downtown Austin between Interstate 35 and Brazos Street. Entry is always free!

Austin Oktoberfest 2022

After the previous 2021 session was canceled the Austin Oktoberfest is back on for 2022. This all-ages event lets you enjoy all things German with delicious food and drinks. Oktoberfest is a famous German celebration that has been going on since 1812. The German Texas Heritage Society brings about the celebration every year for authentic German brews and food along with exciting games. Guests will be able to enjoy delicious food such as brats along with German beers. This event will take place at the German Free School, a historical building found in downtown Austin. A variety of kids’ activities will also be on hand so the whole family has fun. Austin Oktoberfest 2022 will take place on October 8th from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at The German Free School.

Boo at the Zoo

One of Austin’s most looked-forward-to events is returning with Boo at the Zoo. The Austin Zoo hosts this spooky and exciting family event every Friday and Saturday night in October. Enjoy train rides, a haunted house perfect for all ages, and live musical entertainment. Boo at the Zoo is included in every regular zoo entry making it a wallet-friendly event.

Austin Trail of Lights

Whenever you visit Austin during the holiday season you will find plenty of events taking place. One of them is the Austin Trail of Lights, a jubilant display of holiday lights. This extravagant event has been named one of the top 10 Public Displays of Holiday Lights by USA Today. This event takes place at Zilker Park where you will find over 2 million holiday lights hung up along with 90 light holiday trees plush additional holiday displays and light tunnels. This event is always free and lets you see some of the best holiday lights displays in the country. Don’t miss out on the 58th Annual Austin Trails of Lights taking place Tuesday through Sunday each week from December 8th through the 23rd. You can visit the park for the light show between the hours of 5:45 PM to 10:45 PM.
